Lord Nicol Stephen is the executive chairman of Flotation Energy plc. The company is a global developer of offshore renewable energy projects, specialising in floating wind. He initiated, developed and constructed the world’s largest floating windfarm, the Kincardine project in Scotland.

Flotation Energy has an experienced senior management team with a track record of consenting more than 3GW of offshore projects in the UK. Its strategy is to partner with local companies in Asia, Europe and the Americas to develop new offshore windfarms, both floating and fixed.

Lord Stephen has a background in law, corporate finance and politics. He has been a member of the UK House of Commons, the Scottish Parliament and the UK House of Lords. He was previously Scotland’s Deputy First Minister. As Energy Minister, he encouraged ambitious renewable energy targets and introduced significant support for the offshore sector.

For the last 10 years his main focus has been on his renewable energy interests. He has significant experience of developing, project financing, constructing and operating projects, both onshore and offshore.
