Mathias has been involved as part of the management team in various offshore wind projects since 2009. Having practiced law previously at Allen & Overy, Mathias stepped into the offshore wind business in 2009 as CLO at C-Power, Belgium’s first offshore wind development, which reached financial close for its Thorntonbank project (295 MW) in 2010 and was involved in the set-up and management of Otary (2011-2012) and its projects, of which Rentel reached financial close in 2016 (309 MW).
Currently, Mathias is acting CEO of SeaMade NV (a joint venture between Otary / Engie-Electrabel and Eneco) which reached financial close for its 487 MW offshore wind farm in December 2018 and North Sea Wave NV (a SPV set-up for examining the feasibility to develop a wave energy project in the Belgian North Sea) as well as co-CEO of Otary NV (a consortium which has developed directly and through its partners 1707 MW in Belgium).
Mathias graduated from Ghent University law school in 2004, obtained a Master in Law degree (LL.M.) from the Georgetown University law school in Washington, D.C. in 2005 and an executive MBA from Vlerick Business School in 2014.
Mathias is a member of the executive committee of the Belgian Offshore Platform, the federation of (investors in) electricity producing companies in the North Sea.
