Head Business Unit Offshore Wind, Boskalis Offshore Energy
Within Boskalis Marcel van Bergen is responsible for the Business Unit Offshore Wind. Boskalis is a leading global dredging and marine services expert and operates a fleet of about 900 vessels. Boskalis Cables (the former VBMS) and Boskalis HMT (the former Dockwise) are market leaders in their respective fields of offshore cable installation and heavy marine transport.
Until 2012 Marcel held the position of director at Ballast Nedam Offshore where he was responsible for the construction of a large number of offshore windfarms such as the first Dutch offshore windfarm, Egmond aan Zee. From there he moved on and became responsible for the Offshore WindForce consortium formed by Boskalis and VolkerWessels where he was responsible for the construction of several offshore windfarms such as West of Duddon Sands, Veja Mate, Wikinger and Aberdeen. In total Marcel has been involved in the construction of over 20 offshore windfarms.
In 2016 Boskalis acquired the full ownership of the offshore wind foundation and cable activities and continued its investments in new transport and installation assets for the offshore wind market. In 2018 the 3000T Bokalift 1 installation vessel was lounged and in October this year Boskalis announced the investment in the Bokalift 2 installation vessel with a 4000T crane focused on the Asian Pacific market after securing the Chang Fang and Xidao offshore windfarms foundation installation contract.
