Country Representative Japan, Mainstream Renewable Power
Luke Eginton is currently the Country Representative Japan for Mainstream Renewable Power, a European renewable energy developer of which a majority stake was acquired by Aker Horizons in 2022 followed by Mitsui & Co.’s purchase of a 27.5% shareholding. A well-known wind industry figure in Japan, Luke’s experience of the market began in late 2007 when he was appointed MD for Vestas Japan with responsibility for sales into Taiwan and Korea as well.
Prior to joining Mainstream RP, Luke joined Orsted, and being the first employee for the company in Japan, helped establish Orsted in the Japanese market as well as their participation in the three fixed-bottom offshore wind auctions in Japan’s Round 1. Prior to Orsted, Luke was the Japan wind investment platform responsible for Equis Funds Group, who developed a large portfolio of pan-APAC renewable energy assets it sold to Global Infrastructure Partners in 2018. The portfolio was then rebranded as Vena Energy.
Fluent in Japanese and currently a doctoral student at the prestigious Kyoto University researching the feasibility of hydrogen from offshore wind in the Japan context, Luke has a unique insight into the development of Japan’s renewable energy market and a keen understanding of where it might head next.
