They are now seeking a General Manager – Procurement to lead procurement activities across major renewable EPC projects in Japan, including wind, solar, and energy storage.
Role Overview
We are seeking a seasoned and driven General Manager – Procurement to join our client’s dynamic EPC team in Japan. This senior leadership role will be responsible for overseeing all procurement operations, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring commercial excellence across large-scale renewable energy projects. You will lead the procurement strategy, drive cost optimisation, manage ongoing contracts, and collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to ensure project success from procurement to execution.
Responsibilities:
* Lead full-cycle procurement activities for wind, solar, and battery storage projects in Japan.
* Develop and manage vendor relationships to ensure cost-effectiveness and business continuity.
* Own and manage ongoing contracts and procurement packages across project execution.
* Drive contract negotiations, manage contractual obligations, and collaborate with legal and engineering teams.
* Provide support on project cost scheduling and budgeting in collaboration with EPC and BD teams.
* Ensure procurement strategies align with compliance, statutory requirements, and corporate governance.
* Facilitate vendor development, commercial evaluation, and onboarding of alternative sources.
* Coordinate with cross-functional teams to align procurement with engineering, quality, and execution timelines.
* Monitor contractual claims and manage communication with suppliers and EPC partners.
* Review and optimise vendor identification, validation, and approval processes.
* Oversee procurement-related insurance and statutory compliance functions.
Requirements:
* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (BTech).
* 10+ years of procurement experience in energy or utility project environments, preferably EPC.
* Demonstrated expertise working with OEMs in large-scale renewable energy projects.
* Solid understanding of finance, taxation, and budgeting processes.
* Familiarity with the tendering and bidding processes within EPC frameworks.
* Professional certifications such as CPSM, CPPS, CPP, or PMP are advantageous.
* Business-level fluency in written and spoken Japanese.
* Strong leadership, team management, and communication skills.
* Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver under pressure.
