The Asia Pacific Offshore Wind Academy will be established in Singapore and will provide educational services for the regional offshore wind industry.
The academy will be the first of its kind for the offshore wind industry in Asia Pacific that focuses on higher-level education. It will offer offshore wind courses for professionals throughout the region, ranging from entry to advanced level.
Asia Wind Energy Association board member Edgare Kerkwijk said, “The establishment of a regional academy for the offshore wind industry in the region is very timely.
“The shortage of a locally trained skilled workforce is one of the main challenges for the offshore wind industry in the Asia Pacific. With the tremendous growth expected in the industry and the increasing requirements for skilled manpower, the training centre will actively support the development of a local and regional workforce.”
DOB-Academy chief executive Dr Jan van der Tempel said, “The challenge of the energy transition can only be tackled by sharing expertise and experience. We are thrilled to expand our mission into the Asia Pacific region.”
