We are currently supporting a renewable energy developer focusing on BESS and solar projects, delivering the next generation of renewable energy to help Australia achieve its net zero targets. With a growing portfolio of utility-scale solar and BESS projects, they are seeking a technically strong Development Manager – BESS to help shape, de-risk and deliver pipeline across the National Electricity Market (NEM).
This role is ideal for someone with a technical background in grid connection or system design, ready to step into a broader development leadership role while still applying their engineering strengths.
Responsibilities
As the Development Manager, you will be responsible for managing all phases of project development with a strong focus on technical feasibility, grid strategy, and early-stage system design.
- Lead grid connection strategy, including lodging connection applications, engaging with AEMO and NSPs, and managing grid studies and GPS packages
- Oversee concept design, layout optimisation, system sizing, and technical scoping for standalone and hybrid BESS projects
- Work across land, environmental, planning, and engineering workstreams to ensure projects meet milestones and risk thresholds
- Provide technical input into business case modelling, capex estimates, and offtake and revenue strategy development
- Coordinate with internal specialists, consultants, and contractors to ensure alignment from development to delivery
- Contribute to site selection and feasibility reviews with a focus on grid viability and technical constraints
Experience
- 5+ years’ experience in renewable energy, energy storage, or grid-scale infrastructure, with a strong grounding in grid connection or electrical design
- Detailed knowledge of NEM grid connection processes, GPS requirements, and relevant NER clauses
- Familiarity with AEMO and NSP engagement
- Experience developing BESS, solar + storage, or hybrid projects from feasibility to financial close preferred
- Strong project coordination skills and ability to manage multiple stakeholders and workstreams
- Engineering or technical degree (electrical, power systems, renewable energy)
