After joining the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) in 1996, Mr. Takuya Yamazaki has been largely involved in energy policies, such as the Second Electricity System Reform of Japan from 1998 to 2000, which introduced retail competition and third party access to the grid for new entrants, and the Fifth Electricity Market Reform from 2012 to 2015, which introduces full retail competition and unbundling transmission and distribution sectors of the incumbents. Also in his current capacity since 2016, Mr. Yamazaki has been tackling with the challenges to integrate properly renewable energy to Japanese electricity market.
