Brent Hyde Smith

Country Head, South Korea

Recently appointed Head of Korea for ENGIE responsible for establishing business activities in Renewable Energy Generation (Offshore/Onshore Wind & Solar) and Client Solutions (Energy Efficiency, District Energy, Facilities Management & Smart City Solutions including Smart Grid and Storage) in Korea.

Prior to this new appointment Brent was Head of Marketing and Strategic Business Development for ENGIE Services APAC based in Malaysia & Singapore focused on developing the Client Solutions business in South East Asia. In that period ENGIE achieved an eleven fold growth and a market leading position in Singapore through key acquisitions in six companies in the following sectors – District Energy (Malaysia), Integrated Facility Management & Data Centers (Singapore) including a highly successful integration track record.

Prior to his APAC appointment, Brent was Managing Director for Cofely East London Energy in UK, responsible for the construction and operation of the London Olympic District Energy scheme, consisting of a 40-year concession supplying low carbon energy to the QE II Olympic Park & Westfield Shopping Centre Complex through tri-generation (efficient production of electricity, heating & cooling with storage) and biomass heating. He was also Managing Director of the Projects & Engineering Services business in UK including prefabrication facilities following the merger of GDF and Suez in 2008.

Brent was born and brought up in Zimbabwe, and has lived in South Africa, United Kingdom, Malaysia and Singapore before relocating to Korea in July 2019. He has been in the ENGIE Group for 23 years and has qualifications in Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Company Direction.
